BioMining is the process of segregating the already-accumulated urban legacy solid wastes, helping in cleaning up legacy dump sites. This helps scientifically reclaim these lands for better usage. This is extremely crucial today, as the dump yards that were conceptualized originally to be outside the city are right at the epicentre of real-estate development these days.
SWMS is one of the leading players in this space and has been working on about 9 sites spread across the state, including Pallikaranai, Sattangadu, Villupuram, Rasipuram and Thoothukudi.
SWMS has partnered with the Corporations of Tiruppur and Tirunelveli, and many other Municipalities to carry out the Primary and Secondary collection and transportation.
Pallikkaranai – Successfully processed 32,682.4 MT of legacy waste from July 2019 to August 2021, restoring the site for sustainable utilization.
Athipet – Executed large-scale biomining, reclaiming 75,551.2 MT of waste between October 2019 and July 2023, enhancing environmental quality.
Sathangadu – Recovered 100,508.22 MT of accumulated waste from December 2019 to March 2024, ensuring optimal land restoration.
Avadi – Effectively processed 51,339.2 MT of legacy waste from April 2019 to October 2023, contributing to ecological balance and land reuse.
Villupuram – Cleared 42,400 MT of waste through biomining from August 2019 to December 2022, facilitating sustainable redevelopment.
Rasipuram – Successfully removed 32,800 MT of legacy waste from July 2019 to December 2022, improving site conditions and land potential.
Gudalur – Processed 34,913.6 MT of accumulated waste from July 2019 to August 2022, preventing environmental degradation.
Vengadamangalam – Executed waste recovery operations, reclaiming 97,600 MT from April 2020 to September 2023, enabling future urban expansion.
Thoothukudi – One of the largest projects, eliminating 181,600 MT of waste from December 2021 to July 2023, restoring the area for productive use.
Karaikal – Reclaimed 68,776.8 MT of legacy waste through biomining from May 2023 to May 2024, ensuring land rehabilitation and sustainability
The Future of Sustainable Waste Recovery
Bio mining is an eco-friendly and innovative process that uses naturally occurring microorganisms to extract valuable metals from solid waste, mining residues, and contaminated sites.
